About this piece

A striking expression of ceramic artistry, this crystalline bloom (Hanakessho) matcha bowl set transforms the preparation of matcha into a ritual of beauty and presence. Each bowl is finished with a naturally flowing glaze that blooms across the surface during firing, creating organic textures and tonal variations that cannot be replicated. The result is a functional work of art designed to elevate your daily matcha practice.

Complete Matcha Ritual Options — Choose from the Duo Set (Bowl + Whisk Holder), the Full Matcha Set (Bowl, Holder, Whisk, Scoop), or the Full Matcha Set + Ceremonial Matcha for an immediate tea experience.
Thoughtfully Crafted Dimensions — Matcha Bowl (12.9 × 11.8 × 7.2 cm • 400 ml), Chasen Holder (6.5 × 7.5 cm), Bamboo Whisk (6 × 10 cm), Bamboo Scoop (18 × 1 cm), Sieve (18 × 4 cm).
Ceremonial Matcha Option — First Harvest Ichibancha ceremonial-grade matcha from Uji, Kyoto, Japan (30 g), shade-grown and stone-milled for vibrant color, balanced umami, and natural sweetness.

Each bowl is fired at high temperatures to form its signature flow glaze, producing a fully vitrified, smooth, and crack-free surface safe for everyday use. To further enhance durability, an additional dinnerware-grade clear glaze is applied over the crystalline structure.

Because the glaze forms organically during firing, every bowl is entirely one-of-a-kind, with spontaneous flow patterns and natural variations that ensure no two pieces will ever be identical. Each set is carefully selected and packaged to ensure quality, authenticity, and a refined matcha experience from the first whisk.

The blooms across this bowl are not painted or printed — they are grown inside the kiln. Crystalline glaze is among the most demanding finishes in all of ceramics, and one of the few where the maker must hand the final decision to fire and chemistry.

The recipe is deliberately unstable: heavy in zinc and silica, almost free of the alumina that normally holds a glaze in place. At peak heat it turns to running glass; as the kiln cools through a narrow window near 1,000°C, crystals seed and spread into the snowflake-like flowers you see. Drift a few degrees and nothing blooms at all.

Each vessel is hand-thrown in small batches and high-fired to full vitrification, then sealed with a clear, food-safe dinnerware glaze. Slight variations in size, weight, and colour are not flaws but the signatures of a piece made by hand and finished by fire.

Hand wash with warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, harsh detergents, and the dishwasher, which dull the surface over time. The glaze is fully vitrified and food-safe.

Before whisking, warm the bowl with a little hot water and dry it — this steadies the temperature of your matcha and helps the foam hold.
